The Stairway to Heaven?
Strange as it may seem, Jesus Christ is not just for Christians. He has a relevance to every person whoever they may be. He speaks every language, understands every culture, and can bring his grace and power into any and every situation.
For that reason, on Sunday evenings, we've started doing church for the uninitiated and the uncommitted. Don't get us wrong, its not about the 'hard sell'. That's not our style. But on Sunday evenings we try not to take anything for granted and we try to present the Gospel in all its simplicity. There's no hype, no jargon and no pressure. Just Jesus. Think of it as acoustic Christianity for the unplugged generation.
From April through to August we are looking at that most iconic of Christian concepts - The Ten Commandments. Now I appreciate that might not sound like something to get excited about. After all, how can something so (apparently) authoritarian and anti-democratic possibly have any relevance to us and our postmodern world! Well Ok, but don't stop reading just yet. Surely The Ten Commandments are not quite so easy to dismiss. After all, they have been in print for three and a half thousand years. And during that time they haven't just been sat on someone's shelf gathering dust. They have been very busy indeed - shaping lives and building civilisations. Now if that is the case, is it not at least possible that they are not what we might think they are? And, if that is true, is it not also possible that they might have something to say that will help us? Well here is an invitation to suppress any negative instincts for while, engage with what is actually there, and find out for yourself. Here is what is happening when. . . 26 April - The Ten WHAT!? 3 May - The God Delusion
24 May - Thou Shalt be Image Conscious
31 May - O God!
7 June - Thou Shalt Not Work Too Hard
14 June - Calling All Policy Makers
21 June - No service

19 July - The New Communism
26 July - Little White Lies

You will find them all at St Cuthbert's School where they will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
