To be a Christian is to be forgiven. That forgiveness is free, total and irreversible, but those who are forgiven can still be haunted by their past (and present) sins. The fact is that though God may forgive us, we find it hard to forgive ourselves. This series of sermons from 1Timothy 1.12-18 is about laying those ghosts to rest. Paul had quite a past and in this passage we see how he lived with it.
